Editor’s notes This piece was inspired by the simple lines of Shaker furniture. “In its essence, Shaker furniture is pure,” says John Keith Russell, an antiques dealer who has been collecting it for more than 50 years. “Design was determined by function. Each piece was made to go in a specific place, to do a specific thing.” It is a lovely marriage of form and function, as all tables should be. It’s perfectly proportioned, and the leg has a lovely taper in the classic Shaker style. Each piece is newly made from vintage fir in Southern California.
