About Baumann France Baumann France, also known as Baumann Frères, is a well-known French furniture manufacturing company. Baumann Frères was established in 1866 by Emile Baumann in Bischwiller, a town in northeastern France. The company initially focused on the production of bentwood furniture, following the popular techniques pioneered by Michael Thonet. Baumann Frères gained recognition for its high-quality craftsmanship and innovative designs. They became known for their expertise in bending and shaping wood, creating elegant and durable furniture pieces. The company’s furniture often featured curved and steam-bent wood elements, giving their designs a distinctive aesthetic. Baumann Frères produced a wide range of furniture items, including chairs, tables, stools, and other seating options. Their furniture designs were popular in both residential and commercial settings, and they catered to various styles, from traditional to modern. During the mid-20th century, Baumann Frères embraced the modernist design movement and introduced sleek, minimalist designs that were characteristic of the era. Their modernist-inspired furniture pieces featured clean lines, organic shapes, and often utilized materials such as plywood and molded plastic. The company collaborated with notable designers, including French architect Pierre Guariche, to create iconic furniture pieces. While the original Baumann Frères company closed in the 1990s, their furniture continues to be sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts. The legacy of Baumann France lies in its rich history of producing high-quality, innovative furniture, and its contributions to the French design industry.
